Background Information
The spectacular 60,000 seat Emirates Stadium became Arsenal Football Club's new home in summer 2006 after 93 years at Highbury. Happold Safe & Secure (HS&S) worked with architects HOK SVE, AYH project managers and Sir Robert McAlpine, the main constructor. It is one of the most challenging construction projects in recent times, surrounded on two sides by railway lines.

Project objectives
HS&S completed the strategy and performance specifications for integrated security systems at this prestigious North London stadium. HS&S directed the contract negotiations and liaised with many of the overarching government bodies responsible for security and safety within this environment. The security design was based on client requirements and best practise, which included HOSDB and British Standards.

Key successes
Working closely with the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), an important stakeholder, gave HS&S and the Arsenal Football Club the necessary reassurance that the system would meet the operational requirements. In turn this relationship has allowed HS&S to confidently develop tools for the MPS that are needed to manage such large events.

The stadium was completed with zero overspend, just over two weeks ahead of schedule, in time for the start of the 2006/07 football season
